As an avid promoter/producer of kite festivals living on the Gulf of America coast, I had hte distinct pleasure of helping organize an annual event called “Audrey’s Day at the Beach”. A couple in my community had a grandaughter who died of Down syndrome — “Audrey” — in her memory they, and their son, produced an event each summer the week-end following Father’s Day at the beach park.

The kids and the families of the San Antonio Down Syndrome Association had a day of kite flying, kayaking, fishing, beach time, a Texas style BBQ . The Coastal Bend Skypirates kite club invited all the kite clubs and flyers in Texas to have a day of exhibition flight for this event. We did this every year for thirteen years!! It started small, but swiftly grew to over 300 families in attendance.
