Wickedrevs Windy World

Who is “Wickedrevs”?

The nickname “wickedrevs” came about quite late in my life, as a kite flyer actually.

I was making kites while overseas in the Eastern Caribbean islands from palm frond ribs and scraps of newsprint or tissue paper when I was but a teenager with my younger brother helping.

Many years later I was exposed to dual line sport kites while at a beach resort town when traveling in Mexico.

I pursued the sport kite hobby at a Galveston, TX kite shop, purchasing and taking my little sport kite back to Arizona to play with. Upon returning to Texas a year later, I was exposed to quad-line kites called “Revolutions” and was transfixed by them.

You see the image of “Wickedrevs” flying a Rev Blast, large kite capable of propelling the hobbyist on a mountain board, or a kite buggy. I was called out as being “wicked” with my moves flying Revolution kites——“wickedrevs” was born!!

    Katy’s Tale….A.J.

The following is a bit I received from my friend Katy. She and Chris, her husband, were also friends of A.J. [Action Jackson]. These are Katy’s memories…….of our mutual friend. AJ and his wife wandered into my life one day down in Flour Bluff, TX; where a few of us were experiencing the winds with…

Only a few short hours away, the Grand Island kite festival will kick off with a group meet/greet, then a night flight of LED lighted kites, and then the next morning the big show begins, another night flight, and again the next morning a few hours of aerial fun to wrap up the weekend. I…

    Missing Another Kite Festival

I missed another kite festival today, the weather was a drizzling, dripping, soggy wet mess, and if you know kites at all you know its just not a workable combination. It was my intent to attend with my DSLR and my newest addition, a DVR handheld to photograph and video the event making content for…

    Missing my “String Time”

I run back through some pics of past kite times, finding images of days on the beach and noticing that the breeze here today is PERFECT for an afternoon kite fly.   But. I am without wheels temporarily, so there is no way to grab my kite bags,  chair, and cooler to head to the “kite spot”…

    Thirteen Years for the Kids

As an avid promoter/producer of kite festivals living on the Gulf of America coast, I had hte distinct pleasure of helping organize an annual event called “Audrey’s Day at the Beach”. A couple in my community had a grandaughter who died of Down syndrome — “Audrey” — in her memory they, and their son, produced…

  • Back on the Field

There has been way too long a lapse between times I could get a few hours [or even minutes!] to go fly my kites. Thankfully I have had a couple days to remedy the withdrawl symptoms Ive been experiencing. I’ve wondered why my left hand is tingling a lot, and thumb cramps periodically……because it hasnt…
