For several years the Houston kite club [SHARK] has participated in the annual kid’s day event at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas. They would bring along “bols” and feathers, flagging, etc and help the volunteers with the ”running of the bols” a fun time exercise for the kids. The kiddos are harnessed to a parachute-shaped nylon “bol” and encouraged to race against the wind, this is hard work depending on the breezes!!
This year’s 12th annual event was same as before, with interactive programs, educational displays, and entertainment for the children of the greater Houston area. They were making some changes and one was the purchase of the “bols” or parachutes and harnesses rather than relying on the kite folks to provide them.
This where we got involved. We were tasked with making 20 Texas flag mini banners, several parachutes, and harnesses. Of course, we were glad to respond. What fun to have pictures sent to us of the kiddos running the parachutes……
