Wickedrevs Windy World

Who is “Wickedrevs”?

The nickname “wickedrevs” came about quite late in my life, as a kite flyer actually.

I was making kites while overseas in the Eastern Caribbean islands from palm frond ribs and scraps of newsprint or tissue paper when I was but a teenager with my younger brother helping.

Many years later I was exposed to dual line sport kites while at a beach resort town when traveling in Mexico.

I pursued the sport kite hobby at a Galveston, TX kite shop, purchasing and taking my little sport kite back to Arizona to play with. Upon returning to Texas a year later, I was exposed to quad-line kites called “Revolutions” and was transfixed by them.

You see the image of “Wickedrevs” flying a Rev Blast, large kite capable of propelling the hobbyist on a mountain board, or a kite buggy. I was called out as being “wicked” with my moves flying Revolution kites——“wickedrevs” was born!!

by Lovely G (found on internet) A man of 92 years, short, very well-presented, and takes great care of his appearance, is moving into an old people’s home today. His wife of 70 years has recently died, and he is obliged to leave his home. After waiting several hours in the retirement home lobby, he…

  • The Wild Ride

This is just too funny a story not to pass along. It is not a kite story, but as the saying goes it involves breeze. “Knees in the breeze”, a term for riding morocycle, as a rider of a large cruiser bike, i can totally relate to the following…… Neighborhood Hazard (Or: Why the Cops…

  • Dang but it’s HOTTT!

So here it is the first of August, well tomorrow is, and the summer pattern is being normal.    July is the month of mid nineties, and it was true to form this year, we’ve been just about 90-94 degrees for several weeks, and the humidity seldom below 60% makes it just…

  • A Journey, Remembrances

As some may know, my son Eric Joseph Martin passed away on June 26, 2017. This was a major shock as he was not known to be ill in any way. Melissa, his soul mate of 18 years, was of course stricken. I was notified by an officer from our local PD at the request…

  • Memorial Weekend

While most Americans are bustling about grilling, drinking, party making, and generally just “having a lark” there some who are seriously remembering what the day is all about.   The following was sent to me by a friend, and I felt compelled to share it. A large percentage of our country doesn’t know of, or…

  • Influences From My Youth

While I was a buding teen, our family moved to a small West Indian island called Dominica.  It is here I recall making kites of palm fronds ribs (dried in the sun) and any bits of tissue paper we could scrounge or relieve from Mothers stash. There are photos of our house with the weathered…

Yesterday was the first time I have been to the beach in a while.  We were there to have a “diaper party” for my soon to arrive granddaughter number five!  Seems that boys are rare in my gene pool!…..  We had not made this a kite function, however, my daughter being from my gene pool…

  • Winter Freeze Turns to Spring Fling

This is my first post since November, winter freeze out!!  Actually a run in with an injury, infection, severe series of antibiotics, near miss of loosing my foot, and way to much time spent in four walls [hospitals, rehab facility] to be pleasant.   I recall one day it was in high fifties out, sun shining,…

  • The Great Ones Are Passing On

It seems that the kiting community has seen lots of great folks pass on, leaving those “empty spaces” in the skies. I am sure that other areas have had those ones they all knew and loved, but our region has experienced two that I knew,  and then today I saw that a name synonymous with…
